Great Treadmill with Minor Kinks

By Scientist “eugene_p”

First of all, this is a great treadmill. It looks great, rock solid when running, very quiet and with just perfect amount of cushioning (gotta believe that it has 40% less impact on joints than running on asphalt).

I actually ordered Sole F83 Treadmill directly from Sole Fitness. I was trying to decide between F63 and F80, but the better (‘whisper’) deck (which is really quieter than on F63), warranty, and larger motor made me choose Sole F83 Treadmill . I was surprised to see Sole F83 Treadmill delivered instead. It was quite nice because I am over 6 ft tall and extra 3 in of the deck is quite good for me. The only other difference is the heart rate % on F83 console, which is not that important. Oh yeah, and Sole F83 Treadmill is a bit heavier.

Talking about weight, it IS heavy. However, I was able to move it with my friend from garage to the basement (unpacked, of course) with no problems. However, if we had to go upstairs instead of downstairs, it would be much harder. Assembly took about 45 minutes. Those clip nuts are really bad idea, but they worked. All holes aligned just fine. However, my treadmill wouldn’t turn on. What a disappointment (read more on Customer Service below).
Now that it works, I love it. Very quiet, smooth. A huge motor which you don’t even hear.

A couple of minor issues are:
1. Heart-rate programs HR1 and HR2, while turned on indicate the same thing that they are for weight loss even though HR2 is supposed to be Cardio. Not a big deal because of issue #2.

2. Heart Rate programs will never be used by me. I tried HR2 and I gave up after 5 minutes at speed of about 2 mph (and no, this is not the warm-up, which I bypassed). The programs are so careful as to not to overshoot your target heart rate that they start toooooooo slow for toooo long. On the other hand, using HR2 button as an Autopilot to keep you current heart rate constant worked just fine. So, if I want to use HR program, I would reach my target rate with another program or Manual and then press the Autopilot button.

3. I wish the unit had a couple of buttons to store user info such as age and weight for a couple of users, so you don’t need to enter it every time. Although it does remember the previous value entered (you still need to press Enter after it shows it to you). Also, I wish it remembered the maximum speed for each program used in the previous runs just as with age/weight (I have to press UP button too many times each time I choose a program to select higher speed).

4. The console had a little crack at the bottom (under the STOP button) and the middle part of it was scratched (a lot of micro scratches) during shipping due to packaging – the console had to be wrapped with a plastic and it wasn’t.

As for some of the complains with Sole treadmills about speakers and fans…the fans are not strong but still they are good for keeping your sweat from dripping all over the treadmill. I ran once without the fans and the sweat was all over. The speakers are not your home-theater-quality speakers. But they are fine to use for 30 minutes while running.

Now about my experience with Sole Technical support (or should I say Spirit Fitness, which actually makes these treadmills for Sole?). I got a call back the next day I reported the issue. The tech said that it is either the console or the harness that is defective. It was Friday and he said he would take it to the shipping warehouse and it would be shipped the same day. On Monday I called and he said it wasn’t shipped and he didn’t know why. However, he would not do anything else because he did his job: he took the package to the warehouse and his job was done.

On Tuesday I called and he said “it seems to be shipped” but no tracking number. On Wednesday I called and he said “it WAS NOT shipped”. So, I had to talk to his manager, who promised to find out and call back. Never called back, of course, just as the tech, whom I asked to call back with the tracking number. So, it was finally shipped on Thursday. However, as it turned out, my unit was not defective. One cable near the motor was disconnected (probably during the shipping) and I didn’t notice it first when I looked for the problem there. The tech didn’t even ask to look there. Anyway, I am glad I got the new console as it was not cracked or scratched as the original one that went back.

Creating a pleasing listening ambience in your room is now simpler than ever with the Sony HTCT100’s digital cinema auto calibration function. The Sony HTCT100 delivers 3.1-channel surround sound audio performance from its sound bar and subwoofer. The powered subwoofer does a good job of offering low frequencies, but don’t expect floor-board rattling power.

The LPCM playback facility of the Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar that offers high-resolution audio is an added feature. As the system takes in digital video/audio directly, you get to enjoy full Dolby Digital surround sound. No matter how big your home theater room is, the S-Force Surround system provides great audio effect. Panasonic SC-BT200

lthough the technology debuted in 2006, for many consumers Blu-ray still feels like brand-new tech. That’s why a home-theater-in-a-box (HTIB) system like the panasonic sc-BT200 feels like such an incredible deal–with a street price as low as $450, you get a 7.1 speaker system plus a slimline AV receiver with an integrated Blu-ray player. The biggest knock against the SC-BT200 is that competing systems offer better streaming media options; both the Samsung HT-BD1250T and LG LHB953 have both Netflix and Pandora streaming, which we prefer to the SC-BT200′s Amazon Video On Demand and YouTube streaming. On the other hand, the SC-BT200′s sound quality is darn good for the price, and its 7.1 configuration offers two more speakers than the competition, for a slightly more immersive effect. Although we haven’t done hands-on testing with its competitors yet (coming soon), the panasonic tx looks to be the early favorite for quality sound for a rock-bottom price.

Design

Most Blu-ray HTIBs stick to traditional 5.1 configurations, but the SC-BT200 is a full 7.1 system, even more surprising given its low price. There are six identical speakers that are used for the front, surround, and surround back speakers. These speakers are a little bigger than a soup can, measuring 3.63 inches wide by 5 inches high and 3.2 inches deep, and each features a 2.5-inch bamboo cone driver.

The center channel is a little bigger (9.8 inches wide, 3.75 inches high, and 3.2 inches deep) and features two of the 2.5-inch drivers. The sub has a 10-inch passive radiator and 6.5-inch woofer, and its footprint is also relatively small (7.1 inches wide, 14.2 inches high, and 13.4 inches high). In all, the speakers are puny enough that they should hide nicely in most decors.

The combination receiver/Blu-ray player has a relatively nondescript look, with the faceplate featuring a reflective black finish. Toward the bottom is a flip-down panel revealing an SD card slot, the autosetup mic input, additional playback controls, and a headphone jack. One nice design touch is the pull-out iPod dock; just give a tug where the Panasonic logo is, and a tray for the iPod is revealed. We prefer this integrated design (also found on some LG models) to the break-out docks on the Sony BDV-E500W and Samsung HT-BD1250T, which cause slightly more wire clutter.

The included remote on the SC-BT200 is similar to the one included with the company’s Blu-ray players and we’re generally fans of the design. Frequently used playback controls are given big blue buttons and the directional pad is surrounded by important buttons like pop-up menu and top menu. There is one inexplicable omission, though: an open/close button for the integrated Blu-ray player. Sure, you have to get off the couch to change discs anyway, but we prefer to hit the button before we get up so there’s an open tray waiting when we get there.

Features

The SC-BT200′s main receiver has a Blu-ray player built-in and it offers all the functionality of Panasonic’s entry-level standalone player, the DMP-BD60K. The DMP-BD60K’s full review has the most detailed information, but the short story is the SC-BT200 has full Profile 2.0 compatibility, onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio and VieraCast functionality.

BuyingOnkyo TX-8555 Stereo Receiver

Very nice stereo receiver

I’ve had this receiver for about a month now and I’m totally happy with it. It’s set up with an old Pioneer 25 disc CD changer, a pair of Polk Monitor 30′s and an old-ish Aiwa subwoofer. None of this is high-end, audiophile stuff. If that’s what you’re looking for then don’t try the Onkyo TX-8555 or anything in it’s price range. Like another reviewer said, “You get what you pay for.”
On the other hand, I ain’t no audiophile. I don’t have the money. :)
I love my new receiver. I listen to mainly electronic or “techno” types of music, also live worship and alt rock. The receiver definitely pumps out A LOT of bass. The sub is really just to round out the sound not to blow holes in the wall. It works very well for thumping trance with plenty of low-end detail. I hate booty bass hip-hop. Give me clear, clean, melodic bass. TX-8555 FTW!!!
The speakers you connect any receiver to will make all the difference. I got my Polks used for really cheap. They sound better than anything I could find new within my budget. And they sound infinitely better than the mini-system I had before. Later I will experiment with speaker positioning to get a bit more clarity in the low-mid range. Right now I’m really happy with the whole thing.
There is room for expansion on the Onkyo, too. I will connect the audio from my DVD player and probably a computer to it soon. I’m looking at getting an Onkyo iPod dock for the receiver. Yeah, I’m pretty much hooked on this.

Great product

This was a relpacement receiver and what a choice we made. The sound is fantastic and it is great to have one that is so easy to use. I would highly reccommend this receiver to anyone interested in either replacing or purchasing one for the first time.

Met my expectations

I’m not an audiophile, but I do enjoy rich, crisp, accurate sound. I purchased this unit about 5 months ago and paired it with Polk Audio TSI 200 bookshelf speakers. I couldn’t be more satisfied. The sound reproduction is, as I indicated, crisp, rich and accurate and there are no audible sound artifacts from the receiver. The unit doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but that is part of the attraction for me. As other reviewers have commented, it doesn’t have a loudness button, but, as has been also observed, that is easily remedied by increasing the base a little. I connected a Philips internet radio receiver to this system in January, and once ATT replaced a damaged line to my house, thereby correcting an intermittent DSL connectivity problem, I’ve enjoyed many hours of a wide variety of music.

My First Onkyo

I was looking for an inexpensive stereo receiver to run some Polk audio RC80i ceiling speakers. Kept coming across this Onkyo for several months before finally pulling the trigger. I think it is a great receiver for the price and does exactly what was advertised. My only complaint is there not a defined iPod or MP3 player button or connection, although I am aware that one can be connected using the tape connection. Now I am shopping for an Onkyo to run my home theater.

Onkyo TX-8555 Stereo Receiver

Incredible Value!

I replaced my ailing Sony AV receiver, which was about 15 years old and showing its age, with this Onkyo. No regrets here — it is just first-rate electronics. I have a new Pioneer turnable and a Sony carousel-style CD player connected to the Onkyo, plus a Polk Audio subwoofer and two Sony tower speakers. The sound is just nothing short of amazing. I can’t say enough in praise of the receiver — it is simple, easy to connect and a joy to use. Highly recommended!

Onkyo TX-8555 Stereo Receiversale

Superb

I purchased this amplifier recently. I own a few older, well-regarded amplifiers (tube and solid state) that cost a lot more money when new, so my expectations were not high for this Onkyo. That said, I am stunned by how nice this amplifier sounds. I run the amplifier in Pure Audio mode (press the Pure Audio button on the front panel twice, then the blue LED comes on indicating Pure Audio mode). If I didn’t know better, I’d swear this was a high-end tube amplifier. There is absolutely no background noise. No hiss. No hum. Nothing but dead silence. It makes music with silent passages jump to life. Whether I use this amplifier to drive Paradigm Titan speakers or Grado headphones, the quality of the sound reproduction and the dynamic range is absolutely remarkable, especially bass reproduction. Using a quality CD audio source, I can clearly hear every cymbal, with all the timber, every bass note, with all the string vibration from every finger pluck. For what this amplifier costs, I can’t imagine looking elsewhere unless you need to drive large reference monitors. This amplifier is more than capable of driving anything up to full-sized floor speakers at reasonable volume. The amplifier includes an AM/FM tuner that works well enough. FM channels come in loud and clear using the included wire antenna. AM reception is a bit more difficult using the included loop antenna and its short wires, so at a minimum expect to add four to eight feet of wire to the AM antenna to get the loop well clear of any power cords. But that’s really of little consequence if what you’re looking for first and foremost is a high-quality stereo amplifier. I’ve listened to high-end amplifiers costing many times as much and few sound this pure and clean. The overall look and feel of the unit is professional grade, with just the right amount of heft. All controls have positive feedback and none feel flimsy. The volume knob is particularly nice, with a heavy, smooth action that is slow to respond, resulting in very fine, analog-like volume control. In brief summary, I doubt anyone with reasonable expectations will be disappointed. This stereo amplifier provides performance and quality well beyond its price level.

How To Decide Whether Or Not To Customize Your Car Stereo

It’s pretty obvious isn’t it? It’s just a simple stereo system in an automobile, you say. Although a few people like to install home stereo systems in their automobiles, sometimes it just doesn’t work. Maybe prior to today’s high powered systems it could’ve worked just fine. All you required was a radio and a cassette player (or 8 track, for those other dinosaurs out there) lug those big box speakers into the backseat and you would be rocking down the highway. But today there are things like compact disc players and mp3 players and your popup liquid crystal display panels and all that other high tech gadgetry you would believe they would like to establish a home theater system right on the console of their van. If you don’t know anything about stereo systems but want to have some good sounds in your vehicle anyway, here are a few things to know about a car stereo.

As I mentioned above, back in the day head units and speakers from home audio systems and professional markets were just merely installed into vehicles. Nonetheless, they weren’t well appropriate for the extremes of temperature and vibration which are a natural component of the surroundings of an automobile. Since car stereo enthusiasts were not content with the audio quality of regular car sound systems, and with the coming of the CD player, they really had to begin altering some of these home stereo systems in order to function properly in an automotive environment and now we have the modern car stereo system.

If you own a new vehicle, that you bought from about 1990 to present day, odds are you already have a factory car stereo system in your vehicle unless you replaced it with an aftermarket system yourself. Some auto makers produce their own car stereos, like BMW which includes a respectable car stereo package head unit and speakers. It is standard equipment which comes with all their cars (which isn’t astonishing when you consider that BMW is included in the league of “luxury car makers”). Or comparable to Mercedes Benz or Volkswagen, they employ car stereo systems from a German audio system manufacturer by the name of Blaupunkt.

A normal car stereo receiver (also called a head unit) commonly includes an auto-reverse cassette deck, a CD player and occasionally the optional CD changer, which automatically changes the compact disk in play. On newer automobile models, the stereo may also play mp3s and additional digital audo file types like WMA and AAC, whether on a CD or a storage device which can be connected to the head unit.

These days the car stereo receiver is connected to numerous speakers. Older automobiles usually had just one speaker mounted underneath the dashboard, directing the sound through perforations towards the front windshield. The standard for automobile stereo today is a pair of “tweeters” (employed to bring out high treble) on the driver side/front passenger side dash, along with a pair of normal mid-range speakers in both doors, and sometimes even the backseat passenger doors if it’s a larger car or SUV and larger speakers able to bring out low ends at the back portion of the backseats.

Toshiba?s Qosmio G35-av600: Gives the Best Multimedia Properties

Toshiba’s Qosmio line came first in August, 2004. Since then, it has been at the front in the laptop technology. Now its third generation, the Qosmio G35-AV600 has come in the market. The new model delivers not only the features of previous models but some additional features also. It gives the best multimedia properties as it includes components such as Intel’s new core duo chipset.

The features such as one of the finest 17-inch wide-screen display, an integrated TV tuner, a double-layer DVD drive, rocking stereo speakers and a set of multimedia controls are there. Currently the price is $2,399- a bit costly for the normal users. You will get many of such features (in scaled-down manner) in other notebooks like the HP Pavillion dv8000z, the Dell Inspiron E1705, the Sony VAIO AX and the Fujitsu LifeBook N series at a lower price.

Though it is high-techie, it has a low end GPU and because of this, its gaming performance is badly affected. The laptop is very big with 16 inches width, 11.5 inches depth and 2 inches thick. The weight is around 10.2-11.5 pounds. The keys are large and no separate number pad is there. A/V controls, controls for display brightness, video in and out and Dolby home theater connections are above the keyboard.

The Qosmio G35-AV600 offers number of multimedia features and audio connections (external volume control wheel, S/PDIF jack, headphone and microphone jacks), video connections (S-Video i/p and o/p, VGA out, coaxial input for connecting to a TV signal cable), and data connections (4 USB 2.0 ports, 1 four-pin FireWire port). Networking connections consist of 10/100/1000 Ethernet, Bluetooth, an Intel 802.11a/b/g wireless and a V.92 modem. You will get one slot for a PC Card and another for an ExpressCard.

The combination of a Dolby Home Theater, 1-bit digital amplifier and Harman Kardon stereo speakers gives extremely loud and full sound. As the speakers are below the display, the sound becomes soft when the lid is closed.

The Qosmio G35-AV600′s screen has a resolution of 1,440×900. The laptop has a 1.83GHz Intel Centrino Core Duo processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 160GB SATA hard drive spinning at 5,400rpm and the Nvidia’s bottom-rung GeForce Go 7300 GPU with 256MB of video memory.

If you are crazy for the best multimedia features, this laptop will be the right option for you!
